Tom Merry, one of the vendors at the Denver Book Mall has created a striking window display at the store. Tom has assembled a grouping of sheet music representing every state in the union with delegates to the convention. The music covers appear to hang in the air on invisible fishing line and are tied with yarn to their states on a full map of the country. The centerpiece of the display is "The Denver Auditorium March", the piece written especially for the 1908 Democratic National Convention held in Denver.
Tom notes that "no sheet music was harmed in the making of this display". He notes that he had to cheat a little on one state. He could not find a copy of the state song for North Dakota or any other piece with the name of the state in the title, so North Dakota is represented by "Sweetwater Prairie".
Tom, a physician's assistant by vocation and an accomplished pianist by avocation, is one of the 20 vendors at the Denver Book Mall and the only one specializing in sheet music. He regrets to note that "The Denver Auditoium March" is part of his personal collection and not for sale. |
